Here’s a birds eye view of the construction and development work in Dubai…
You must have seen this picture…yes it is Burj Al Arab in Dubai - Supposedly the only 7 Star Hotel in the World!

It was built in only 18 months and completed in 2003…
Yes, it cost a lot of money. Contrary to popular opinion, Dubai is not oil rich
Just to go in and see the hotel costs 60 Pounds. Can you imagine what it would cost to spend the entire night?
Let me tell you: A suite like this one can cost anything between $7500 and $15,000 a night!

This is the Panoromic Suite for $8,250 a night!

You have to add what it costs to dine in this restaurant.

You can have your business meeting in something like this…

And you can enjoy a drink in one of the numerous bars

Refresh yourself with a shower in a cozy & intimate place like this…

Or enjoy a swim in one of the numerous pools; if a bath is not enough.
If you are feeling bored you can choose to play a tennis match atop the hotel with Nadal (if he is around!)
Crazy isn’t it? For the price of an hours play you can buy hundreds of tennis balls!
Take a look a this indoor sky slope. You could enjoy freezing temperatures when others are sweating in 85 deg Fahrenheit or 45 deg centigrade! Don’t complain about the Sun in Dubai. It’s also in Dubai in the “Mall of the Emirates”.
Is it nice?
The mall looked like this three years ago
Now finished; it looks like this (notice the size of the palm trees)
Friends, you are seeing Dubai - The city with one of the fastest growth rates in the world. Compare the 2 pictures above…
Now look at some of the future projects. 15% of the tall buildings being built in the world are in Dubai. It is said that around 15% of the major construction equipments like Cranes etc are in use at the moment in Dubai.
This is a virtual model of “Burj Dubai” which will be the tallest tower in the world by end 2008. It will exceed 800 meters in height.
Compare it to the closest competitor…

Here is how the Burj Dubai currently looks like…
This is the biggest theme park in the world and it will be finished by 2010. Project has taken off. It will be called “Dubailand”
You can see Dinosaurs come to life - In real size!
The above is the “Jumeirah Beach Residences project” which was just completed. It is a block of 40 buildings.
Work is done day and night.
This is the design plan of the “Dubai Marina” zone showing views of 2 Palm Projects - Palm Jumeirah and Palm Jebel Ali and third one “The World” project. The middle one, the Palm Jumeirah is the smallest and the island is 5 kilometers by 5 kilometers and will add 78 kms to the coastline.

These are the villas on the leaf of the palm.
A Third Palm Project called “Palm Deira” is also coming up. Palm Deira will take 10-12 years to complete and will be bigger in size than the city of Paris!

This is an aerial view of the Burj Al Arab and the Palm.
Between the three islands there will be over 100 luxury hotels, exclusive residential beach side villas and apartments, marinas, water theme parks, restaurants, shopping malls, sports facilities and health spas.
The Palm Islands will add 520 kms of beaches to Dubai coastline. Indeed this is the “Eighth Wonder” of the World!
This is the “World Project” shaped like a world map, another man made archipelago of 300 islands. The development will cover an area of 9 km in length and 6 km in width, surrounded by an oval breakwater. Transport between the islands will be by boat and helicopter! Island prices range from $15 million to $45 million! Think you can have one?
The above dubbed as “The Apeiron Island Hotel” is a project in the conceptual stage. This Seven Star Hotel will be 28 floors and would be 300m from the Dubai coast and accessible only by boat or helicopter. It will have 438 luxury suites, it would contain a spa, an art gallery, and an underwater restaurant with views into a surrounding lagoon. The top two floors would house a temperature-controlled butterfly jungle with tropical species. I guess it should be called a “Funnel”. Does it not look like one?

I used to visit Dubai about 3 times a year for my previous years from 2003-2005. It has been very impressive how fast they are growing. I just had a quick question for you. Are people actually buying any of these residential properties? I mean the amount they are building just doesn’t make sense.

I very much enjoyed seeing the pictures that you posted however I feel that it is a sad thing when there is just too much developement going on! It’s only my honest opinion but the pictures you posted just show too many buildings being crammed as close together as possible and while some of those prices are outrageous I’m quite sure that there will be a lot of people waiting in line to buy them.
It just seems to be too much being crammed together - just for the sake of developement?
I live in a small area just outside of Philadelphia and the fight for the “free space” has just gotten riduculous!

Incredible! I love that first hotel, the tennis court is awesome! The shopping mall/ ski slope looks a bit ugly from the outside, but everything else just looks amazing. Now I have to visit Dubai sometime in the future Desi, if only to go to Dubailand!

Wow those pictures are pretty cool. If Dubai is not oil rich then how come they are so rich?

What is happening in Dubai represents a realization of the best of human traits: 1. A willingness to accomplish on a massive scale that which has never been done before. 2. Creating a stable economy that will last indefinitely for all of the nation’s people 3. Using oil wealth to build a nation rather than filling a Sultan’s pockets. This is the creation of one man who is truly way ahead of his time. Think of it another way: What have all of the other oil rich nations done with far greater accumulated wealth?

As a developer of $1.2 Billion worth of development in Australia over 30 years these designs are awe inspiring and make me realize the beauty and wealth developers add to this world… But then… I always knew that!
Stunning photographs.
