Two-third of the world’s population are poor. The other one-third are either in the middle class or in the aristrocratic class. Banks will not lend money to those who have nothing; however, one bank decided to turn things around and gave money to those who have nothing. 2006 Nobel Peace Prize winner, Dr. Muhammad Yunus, started the Grameen Bank in 1976. He changed the rules of banking. He made it so that in his bank, the one who has nothing has the highest priority to take a loan and use the money to prosper and raise one’s standard of living.

With Grameen Bank loans, more than 2.5 million poor people have helped their families out of poverty; technically, that’s over 4 million people out of poverty with all the families combined. Now who, in this century, or the last century, has done that? No one, Dr. Muhammad Yunus is truly the man of the century for helping so many unfortunate people, who thought they had no future, get a future.

Dr. Muhammad Yunus’ version of capitalism has spread to help millions of poor in China, India, and now it’s planning to be implemented in Iraq.

The repayment rate for the Grameen Bank loans are more than 98%, which is greater than most conventional banks.

A new form of capitalism is truly on the rise; the poor are rising to live a better life.
