Some of the phones that T-Mobile and Cingular sells are quad band, as in they have (850/900/1800/1900) Mhz frquency. When you have a quad band phone you can go any where in the world and use your phone with the local mobile services there. You can also use tri-band, (900/1800/1900) Mhz, phones around the world also, but in less places than with quad-band phones.

Buying unlocked phones are smart buys because you won’t have the burden of being locked up in a contract that these cell phone companies get people in. You can switch your GSM phone services from one cell phone company to another and freely use your phone without any painful 1-2 years contract.
