My room mate is a criminal justice major and he gives me random advice of how the legal system works. In America, if you ever get pulled over by the police for whatever reasons then the best thing to do is plead innocent to avoid getting in trouble. Some times a police officer would say “do you know what you were doing?” and majority of the time the driver, who got pulled over, would admit that we was speeding or ran through a red traffic light. The key to avoiding getting in trouble with the cops is NEVER to admit what you did, just say “I didn’t do anything wrong officer”. If the officer does write you a ticket then he has no way to back it up if you didn’t admit to your violation.

I’m not saying you should break the law purposely, you should abide by the laws by all means, but if you mistakenly did something wrong then just plead innocent.

Also, the officer has no right to search your car if he suspects anything. However, if he sees something illegal in your car then he can search your car. If the officer cannot see anything illegal in you car then he cannot search your car without a warrant; the only thing he can do is just ask you to step out of your car.

Consider this advice for future reference, it may save you from paying a lot of legal fees with the authorities.
