If you go to Macy’s, JCPenny, or even Sears department stores all the time, and when you bring the item you want to purchase to the nearest register you are asked to open a store credit card. If you wanted a special 10%-20% discount the only way to get it is by opening a credit card.

Do your a financial future a favor and don’t open any department store credit cards. Many Americans are in debt in this country and it’s mostly due to credit cards. Even though if you make all the payments, it may still hurt you in the long run.

I opened up a JCPenny credit card about a month ago. I wanted a 20% discount on a wool coat and I wasn’t willing to pay $100 for it. Keep in mind that my credit score is EXCELLENT. Anyways I opened up the credit card and got the coat for around $81.00. I didn’t pay the bill till yesterday, it was due on the 24th of this month. Recently I checked up on my credit score and I was appalled to see it lowered. My credit score dropped 40 points! The first thing that came to my mind was WTF!

I have a lot of credit cards and I always pay them on time, but by opening a new department store credit card hurt my credit score badly. The reason I’m saying to avoid opening department store credit cards is due to the temptation to purchase more and more merchandise. Whenever I go to the mall by myself or with friends many of us have the temptation to buy a new shirt or new pants or shoes from a department store. And if you have a credit card from the store your shopping and you use it then you’ll get a discount.

So, for your future sake avoid opening those credit cards. It’ll help your credit score go up and stay up and it’ll help you save money in the long run.
