Bollywood, India’s largest movie industry, and I believe the second largest movie industry in the world, has no grounds of originality. I’m a big fan of both Hollywood and Bollywood movies and time and time again I see ideas and stories being copied from Hollywood by Bollywood writers and directors.

For example, one of Bollywood’s movies which is well known for copying content from Hollywood’s ET is Koi Mil Gaya. The Koi Mil Gaya movie, directed by Rakesh Roshan, is Bollywood’s first sci-fi film. “Koi Mil Gaya” in hindi means “I Found Someone”. The movie shares a lot of elements from Steven Spielberg’s ET; as in a short little alien that gets left behind in the forest and a group of kids discovering it and becoming friends with it.

Koi Mil Gaya

Other movies that Bollywood copied from Hollywood are as follows:

Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi – My Best Friend’s Wedding
Aamir Khan, Manisha Starrer – Kramer vs Kramer
Masoom – Man, Woman and Child
The Burning Train – Towering Inferno
Dil Hail Ki maanta nahin, Chori-Chori (Old) – It Happened One Night
Man – An Affair To Remember
Agnipath – Scarface
Chachi 420 – Mrs. Doubtfire
Josh – West Side Story

The only factor that differentiates Bollywood from Hollywood is that Bollywood characters will get up and start singing and dancing at the same time in a random period in films. I kind of find that humorous but I enjoy it at the same time.
