When I was young, around 11 or 12 years old, I used to watch this cartoon show on Disney Channel called “Ducktails”. And in the show a character named Scrooge MacDuck fascinated me. In one of the episodes, Scrooge MacDuck went to his homeland of Scotland and remembered a saying his father used to tell him. He said “Don’t work harder, work smarter.” That’s where I got the title of this post.

Hard Work or Smart Work
You could say hard work pays off for the most part, but for a small number of people hard work has its limits. Whether you are working with a small business or a large corporation, you have a better chance to move forward if you work in a smart manner. Working smarter differentiates you from the rest of your co-workers, who are also competitors. The same concept of working smarter goes into blogging.

What do you mean blogging smarter?
Being a smart blogger has a broad range of understanding and meanings, but for the most part it means having a vast amount of knowledge. Let’s look at what’s going on right now, you came to this blog for knowledge, which is a step closer to be a smart blogger. The more you know about blogging the smarter you are about the the subject. Also, with your knowledge cover all ends of your blog, as in maximizing your market and making your blog the best site you can to the best of your abilities.

Let’s look back to my earlier period of making web sites. I had no knowledge of what Technorati was nor did I do anything to gain a good ranking on that site. I had no clue that getting more link backs would help me in PageRanks, and I seriously had no knowledge of how to bring traffic to a site other than spamming. With time, I learned everything to take care of all the ends on my blog, from marketing, to SEO, to tweaking.

So, after reading all this, do you think you’re a hard blogger or a smart blogger?
