In case you don’t have an anti-virus software here is an online utility that can be useful. Infectedornot is an online free service where you can do your PC scan for any possible virus threats to your PC. Here is what you have to do - You go to the above website and do one of the three free checks:
1. A 60 seconds scan to check for major active viruses.
2. A 5 minute scan of your PC for viruses.
3. A Total Scan of your PC which will take up to an hour.
The site also gives interesting data about worldwide virus threats in percentage terms and by a world map representation of countries with viruses. This is based on thousands of PCs scanned by the website in the last 24 hours. According to the site around 17% of the PCs are infected with a virus. France, Mexico, Spain and Italy are more infected countries than others. The virus scan is powered by Panda Software. Try this out - It is quite likely that it may find some viruses which the installed anti virus software on your PC may not be detecting. The 1 minute check gave my PC a clean chit and I am now doing the total scan check. It seems to have detected some viruses, spywares and trojans. The total scan searches for 1.7 million viruses, spyware, Trojans and other threats.
I use the Free AVG Anti-Virus Software and it seems ok for a basic check, although it does not seem to find every kind of worm and Trojan. But it does download updates every day.
Which anti virus software do you use? And which free service do you think is the best?

Up until a couple of weeks ago I used avast antivirus but recently changed to AntiVir. Both seem to be good freeware programs but I prefer antivir. It has regular daily updates as does avast, but i think antivir performance is a bit better.

I thought Antivir is only free for few months. Later on, they’ll request your to upgrade your account. otherwise you will ot be able to update the virus definition?

Hmm, I’m not aware of this situation. I’ve only been using it for a month now, so I haven’t been alerted to that fact. If so, I guess I’ll have to move back to Avast! Thanks for the info zaki.

If you’re going for an online scanner then I’d recommed Trendmicro’s housecall. It scans virus, spywares and even vulnerabilities in your system. Seems helpful when a virus attacks your AV
