Deezer.com (called sometime back as BlogMusik) has re-launched its free and legal online music (legal according to them) listening service. Deezer is a company based out of France. The company had launched and stopped its service after being served notices a few months ago due to legal and copyright issues. Now they are back and you can enjoy listening to streaming music. Their service is lovely. They have thousands of mp3 tracks available. All you have to do is search for the track you want to listen to and click on the play button. There is hardly any lag for buffering. Within 10 seconds the song starts playing.

The site has a nice simple layout. Deezer relies on advertising and affiliate revenue and from song sales on iTunes. The company claims to be legally on the right side but this is only partly true. They have yet to get copyright licenses from the Labels and Master Recordings for the tracks they have listed. Since they are based in France they can probably get away without these.

I did a search for the group Pet Shop Boys and got all their hits. And so on for Rod Stewart. Dozens of songs showed up. You can listen to almost any English song, oldies and new ones included. The quality of the music is very good – As good as listening from your mp3 player. You can also create smart play lists.

Other similar services are Soundpedia (for people living outside USA) and Pandora (for people located in USA). Deezer addresses all people and is better.

I believe Deezer uses ‘progressive download’ so all the tracks you have listened are stored in your browser cache. I guess there should be a way to save it to your hard disk. Can any one suggest a simple way or a tool to download songs from Deezer?
