Usually these big companies have a middleman, a promoter, a research company who takes care of hiring the mystery shoppers. Mystery shoppers are no one but regular everyday consumers like you and me so, you can do mystery shopping.
How does this work?
1) You get hired and you are given an assignment to shop or eat at a certain place.
2) You write a feedback of what you think of the product you bought and used or the quality in service or the food of the restaurant that you were assigned to eat at; or something of that nature.
NOTE: You have to purchase it with your own money first and then get reimbursed for it.
3) You submit your feedback.
4) You get a check in the mail for reimbursement for using your own money plus you get paid for getting paid for mystery shopping for these companies.
NOTE: You may have to answer some questions to qualify, not everyone is eligible to be a mystery shopper.
WARNING: Not all mystery shopping promoters are legitimate. Some of them may be scams so, be careful of which promoter you go to. If these promoters ask for a fee then it’s a red flag on your part and avoid that promoter. However, be cautious and always be skeptical. The Federal Trade Commission put an alert for mystery shopping; read about it.
Where can I find these jobs?
Google “mystery shopping jobs” and you’ll find thousands of them online. Over 95% of the mystery shopping jobs should be online.
So, try to find a legitimate company and try one assignment. If you get a check in the mail for reimbursements and extra money for doing the assignment then that’s your signal to do more assignments.

Many people wonder if mytery shopping is legitimate. It seems like one of those too good to be true deals. However, it really does work. We get free oil changes plus a little bit of money every three months through a company that gives mystery shopping assignments. There are many other assignments we could have if we had the time to do them. For someone with some time, it’s a fun way to bring in some extra cash and get some free products.

Actually, mystery shopping is a very legitimate job. Currently the mystery shopping industry in the US is estimated to be about $800 Million, and this figure is growing. Mystery shoppers are employed in a vast array of sectors, and besides the “normal” or common places like retail stores and such, other locations include resorts, spas, airports, zoos, and more!
Beware for mystery shopper scams though, the latest one is circulating in the mail (in the US), claiming to pay mystery shoppers a weekly salary of $800. Their first assignment is to deposit a cheque that came with the letter (value approximately $4,000) and then wire some $3,800 through western union to a specified address. The “assignment” in this case is to evaluate the service at the western union. This scam is very advanced, as the cheques being used are real cheques, and are accepted by bank tellers. The problem is that there is no money in the account, and so the cheque bounces. This scam has already claimed its share of victims who have sent the money, and then discovered that the cheque bounced, and are left $4,000 in the hole.
Beware! Legitimate mystery shopping companied will RARELY pay you BEFORE you do the job. If you have to incur an expense, such as make a purchase, the mystery shopping company will reimburse you AFTER the job has been completed.
