I’m not joking, there are programs that actually pay you to shop. How it works is companies want to spy on their competitors and they also want feedback from consumers on certain products in certain stores. These companies will literally pay you to shop, use, and keep the merchandises you buy or pay you to eat at a restaurant of their choice. This program is called “mystery shopping” and it can be very rewarding for those who are very active in this.

Usually these big companies have a middleman, a promoter, a research company who takes care of hiring the mystery shoppers. Mystery shoppers are no one but regular everyday consumers like you and me so, you can do mystery shopping.

How does this work?
1) You get hired and you are given an assignment to shop or eat at a certain place.
2) You write a feedback of what you think of the product you bought and used or the quality in service or the food of the restaurant that you were assigned to eat at; or something of that nature.
NOTE: You have to purchase it with your own money first and then get reimbursed for it.
3) You submit your feedback.
4) You get a check in the mail for reimbursement for using your own money plus you get paid for getting paid for mystery shopping for these companies.

NOTE: You may have to answer some questions to qualify, not everyone is eligible to be a mystery shopper.

WARNING: Not all mystery shopping promoters are legitimate. Some of them may be scams so, be careful of which promoter you go to. If these promoters ask for a fee then it’s a red flag on your part and avoid that promoter. However, be cautious and always be skeptical. The Federal Trade Commission put an alert for mystery shopping; read about it.

Where can I find these jobs?
Google “mystery shopping jobs” and you’ll find thousands of them online. Over 95% of the mystery shopping jobs should be online.

So, try to find a legitimate company and try one assignment. If you get a check in the mail for reimbursements and extra money for doing the assignment then that’s your signal to do more assignments.
