What is blu-ray?
Blu-ray, also known as Blu-ray Disc (BD), is the name of a next-generation optical disc format jointly developed by the Blu-ray Disc Association (BDA), a group of the world’s leading consumer electronics, personal computer and media manufacturers (including Apple, Dell, Hitachi, HP, JVC, LG, Mitsubishi, Panasonic, Pioneer, Philips, Samsung, Sharp, Sony, TDK and Thomson). The format was developed to enable recording, rewriting and playback of high-definition video (HD), as well as storing large amounts of data. The format offers more than five times the storage capacity of traditional DVDs and can hold up to 25GB on a single-layer disc and 50GB on a dual-layer disc. This extra capacity combined with the use of advanced video and audio codecs will offer consumers an unprecedented HD experience.

I’m sure many of you went to an electronic store and heard or read something about “blu-ray”. Blu-ray is one of the reasons that people went crazy over Sony’s PlayStation 3.
Blu-ray discs gives the capabilities to store a high definition movie in a single disc. As the months pass more and more people are getting high definition TVs. If you haven’t seen nything on a high definition TV before then I suggest you look at the picture on a high definition TV the next time you go to an electronic store. The picture is incredible. Sports fans go crazy to watch games on high definition TVs.
In recent news Sony and Disney have already begun to produce Blu-ray movie discs. Toshiba and several other electronic companies have produced Blu-Ray players and shipped them out to retailers.
Buying a Blu-ray Player
This is a big NO. Blu-ray is an incredible technology; however, in my opinion, don’t buy the players now. Wait like a year or so then buy it. When DVD players first came out a simple player was $400 and up. Now a simple DVD player is sold around $50. If you already bought a PlayStation 3 then stick with that as your Blu-ray player.
If you are a technology person and you can’t wait to get your hands on them then I suggest you wait until Blu-ray players lower to around $200. In the long run, waiting a year or half a year to buy a Blu-ray players will save you alot of money because as more and more players come out in the coming months the competition increases. As competition increases more and more great features are added to the players to enhance the viewers’ watching experience.
