Today February 21, is the established International Language Day recognized by the international community. This day commemorates the blood that was spilled by the Western Pakistani military against the Eastern Pakistanis for standing up for their identity of being Bengalis.

“Bangla” is the 4th or the 5th most spoken language in the world with people from Pakistan, India, and Bangladesh speaking it. With over 250 million speakers it’s hard to ignore what the people of East Pakistan, now The Republic of Bangladesh established in 1971, did in order to speak their language freely and establish it as their national language.

Bangladesh, is the only country in the world that fought for their identity, with speaking their language freely as one of their motives for fighting. And the people of that country celebrate this day by singing songs in Bangla and holding big festivals all over the country.
