Apple locked their iTunes program from transfering your own files back to your PC from your iPod. I guess they did that to refrain sharing of music but it’s a pain for those who don’t share. I restore my PC several times and I can’t always backup my mp3 music so I searched around and found this software that allowed me to transfer my iPod files back to my PC.

Download EphPod software for free from MegaUpload and install it. Or you can go to their site at EphPod.com and download it from there.

How to transfer files from iPod to PC?
Before the installation plug in your iPod to your PC and wait for your PC to detect it. During the installation you will be asked to locate your iPod, locate it.

After installation there should be two icons in your Start menu. One you should just open, sync, and quit and the other one, ephPod, you just open it like a regular program. Once you have loaded the program your iPod’s files should come up.

Right-click on the file or files that you want to transfer and choose “Copy Songs to Directory” and choose the directory that you want the song(s) to be copied to and press OK, and that’s it. I suggest you keep a back up of this program just in case Apple gets on their back and shuts them down.
