Some webmasters, especially novice webmasters, overlook the importance of linking. The best and most important type of linking is non-back-linking. Non-back-linking is a great way for your site to gain higher Page Rank. Google will give your site higher Page Rank if your site is linked from other sites without your site linking back to them. The reason for this is that if other sites link to your site without your site exchanging links with them then your site is relevant in the internet. For example, you know who Tom Cruise is, but does he know you? Since so many people know Tom Cruise the media labels him as relevant person and the same thing goes to website linking; if so many site’s link to your site then your site is popular and it will get more and more popular as more sites link to your site without your site linking back to them.
Another reason linking is important is because linking opens up more channels to your site. As big search engines, such as Yahoo, MSN, and Google, crawls different websites and indexes them, they go through the links the websites’ contain and if enough sites link to your site then your site will be labeled as an important site on the web.
If you look at the figure below you will see an illustration of how your site will gain more attention as more and more sites link to your site; the red line represents search engine crawlers.
