One thing that bloggers can’t do is shut up and that’s why bloggers are highly valued by alot of big companies because they can be used to reach millions of consumers.

We all know about the new Windows Vista that’s coming out and all the negative atmosphere it was creating because of the defects of the OS.

Microsoft decided to try something, they surprised everyone in the blogsphere by giving out free Acer Ferrari laptops loaded with Windows Vista. Microsoft chose certain big name bloggers and gave them free laptops so they would review Windows Vista. I guess Microsoft needed some bloggers to write positive reviews for Windows Vista by giving them free gifts.

Amit Agarwal from Digital Inspirations blog listed 14 people, including himself, who received one and what they plan on doing with it.

1. Mauricio Freitas - Decides to keep it.

2. Scott Beale - Will probably give it away Will sell it on eBay, proceeds going to EFF.

3. Ed Bott - Decides to keep it - Will either send it back to Microsoft or auction it off for charity.

4. Mitch Denny - Gives it to his wife.

5. Darren Rowse - Will donate to charity after reviewing.

6. Barb Bowman - Decides to keep it.

7. Long Zheng - Will probably keep it.

8. Brandon LeBlanc - May offer it to blog readers or send it back to Microsoft.

9. Michael Arrington - May give to someone at CrunchGear.

10. Joey deVilla - Decides to keep it.

11. Marshall Kirkpatrick - Will probably return it to Microsoft.

I think this is one of Microsoft’s strategy to gain positive ground for Windows Vista in the blogsphere. The blogging network is huge and more and more people’s attention are diverted to news and advice from blogs and I think companies like Microsoft is using bloggers to market their products.
