This is the continuation of the first post, Common Mistakes of Blogging. In the first post I mentioned the “common” mistakes, now I’m going to emphasize other mistakes you can avoid when blogging.
Praising another blogger too much is a big NO. This was one of my biggest flaws. I would talk about what other bloggers did and what they contributed instead of emphasizing on what I can contribute. This would obviously get annoying since you can go to their site and read what they contributed instead of staying on my blog. So limit yourself when talking about other bloggers. Readers come to your blog to read what you know, not what others know, otherwise there’s no point of coming to your site.
Don’t self-promote too much. When blogging don’t talk about yourself too much, instead, try to avoid it. Do your best not to talk about how great your blog is but instead talk about how you became successful and what your readers can do to be successful like you. Blog mostly about how you can help your readers. Blogs that offer selfless contribution to others are very successful in the blogsphere.
Choose a fast loading template. Blog readers are on the go, if you can’t load your blog up all the way within 10 seconds or less then you’re more likely to loose readers. Stay away from Adobe Flash and heavy graphics, the faster your blog loads the better.
Don’t mix topics. This was a big flaw on my part. I talked about various things on one blog. I was wrong for doing it, and now as you can see I narrowed my focus down to blogging and related content. The more focused your blog is the more loyal users you’ll get since it’s your focused topic that they’re interested in reading. If you like to talk about a different topic other than the one established on your current blog, then create another blog and interlink the two blogs if you have to.
Write a good title. Don’t just make up any title for your post, compose a title that will catch the attention of a person who is randomly surfing. I remember I wrote a good article that took me over an hour to write but I didn’t get many hits on that post because I chose a poor title for it. So take the time to choose good titles for your posts.
I hope my past mistakes, which I have listed will help you in your blogging. Did you ever make the same mistakes as me? If so, how long did it take you to realize it and correct them?

@Amit: Thanks
@Sofcore: Yeah, take the time to think of good titles. Try to put yourself in your readers’ place, that helps me come up with nice titles.

Hi Sunny,
Nice article It is not an easy task to learn from mistakes, you have done a great job.
I would like to add that, read your post in the preview mode and do the spell check or grammar check.

@Jahin: Thanks
@Nirmal: Thanks
@Vijay: Thanks, but in the preview mode it’s hard to correct it. It’s better to write it out on MS Word where the grammar and spelling mistakes can be identified by the computer for faster editing.

I got so inspired by this post that I went right back to my blog and you know what you are right.. my “Easy Guide” is actually not that easy..lol.. so i re-categorized each one. But you know what - I have a bit of problem.
Although none of my post have the tag, the tag still shows as one or four. For example, I don’t have any post with the tag “E-gold” anymore but the tag is still there and shows as one. I tried clicking on the tag and my blog says no such post. Do you think this is a glitch or something? I am using blogger as my host.
Any suggestions? Thanks LJ

I’m flattered, thanks.
As for the tags, I think it may be a glitch. Try deactivating the plug-in and reactivating it. If that doesn’t work you have to go back and try to remember which post had tags on them and re-edit them.
