Like almost every post on this blog I wrote this post based on my experiences. I went to New York many times and sometimes I stayed for a little while and other times I stayed longer. I lived in Atlanta for 14 years so I can say alot from a Southerners’ point of view; however I won’t, I’m going to write this post in a neutral position I’m tired of Atlanta but I’m not a big fan of New York. I’m going to give you the pros and cons of both areas and I’ll even it down to which is the best place to live based on your preferences.

New York City Pros
Exciting
The city is a fun place to be with family and freinds. There are alot of places to enjoy during Spring Break for students and during the holidays for families. Some of these places are the Central Park, Rockefeller Center, Times Square, Empire State Building Observatory, NY SKYRIDE, Broadway, and many more to enjoy.

Less Driving
In New York you will hardly need to drive to go anywhere. Grocery stores, laundry centers, and other stores for your needs are just a walk away from where ever you live. So, that leads to less gas consuming so, more money for your wallet.

New York City Cons
Expensive
To live in New York is to drain your wallet dry. Unless you have a very good job or alot of money in your savings you will not live in luxury or comfortably in New York. The cheapest apartment that I’ve seen in Queens is like $1200 for a one bedroom and one bathroom apartment with kitchen and living room and dining room attached to it. There can be cheaper ones but you may have to look deeply.

People
New York people are a very interesting mix; however, the thugs, the thieves, and other criminals that wonder in the streets may be a security factor. Also, if you plan on having kids, DO NOT raise them in NY. Unless you live in the northern part of the state or somewhere away from New York City, your kids most likely will have bad influences from other kids in the areas.

New York City Atlanta

Atlanta Pros
Fun
Atlanta has various places to enjoy for families: Stone Mountain Park, Six Flags over Georgia, Georgia Aquirium (largest aquirium in the world), World of Coca Cola, Underground Atlanta, CNN Studio, and more…

Less Expensive
In Atlanta not everything is cheap but it’s very low compared to the same things from NY. A motel room in Atlanta is low as $39 a night plus tax so, it’s not very pricy.

Environment
In Atlanta, most of the area is clean and clear. Places like Dunwoody, Sandy Springs, Alpharetta, Brookwood, and Roswell are just several places where the infrastructure is new so, the roads are newly paved and clean.

Real Estate
Buying a house or buying land in Georgia is less expensive than in NYC. You get alot more for your money if you invest in real estate in Georgia than if you invest in NYC.

Atlanta Cons
More Driving
In Atlanta you have to pretty much drive EVERYWHERE. There are no friendly local grocery stores near most residential areas so, people have go to big business stores such as Kroger, Publix, and Wal-Mart to get their basic needs taken care of. So, gas for cars, is one of the basic needs for most families in Atlanta. As gas prices go up it hurts the average consumer living in Atlanta.

If you are a city person without kids, I suggest you live in New York City as long as you have a job that pays well, then you can survive, if not then I suggest you don’t settle there. New York is an exciting place for anyone who loves life and the city life there does not match any other. Everywhere you go you will see something interesting, weather it’s a singing hobo or a dancing money, you will enjoy it.

Atlanta is the best place if you want to start out with a small paycheck and work your way up. In Atlanta, rent isn’t expensive; I stayed in an Apartment for one college semester and I paid partially with a total of $250 with cable, high-speed internet, paid electricity, paid water, living room, dining room, kitchen, one bathroom, and a bedroom shared with someone.

There are alot more pros and cons for each city but based your preferences you may not agree with mine. Comments about this post is welcome as it is always with all the other posts.
