If you have a Linksys router and a cable modem you probably have a hard time surfing the internet when you first installed it. I struggled for a week and a half to try to get my internet straightened out. I had enough of the problem so I called up Linksys and they put me on hold for a long ass time. I’m writing this article as a reminder to me and a tip to fix it for all of you who may have the same problem so, you don’t have to wait on hold for a long time on the phone.

It doesn’t have to be WRT54G router, it can be any other Linksys router. So, if you have a cable modem and it’s hooked on to a Linksys wireless router and it’s slow, try the following method to see some results.

Make sure you have a computer wired to the router; don’t use the wireless connection.

1) Open up Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox.
2) Type 192.168.1.1 in the address bar and log in to your router.
3) Click on Status on the top tab.
4) Click on DHCP Release.
5) Click on DHCP Renew and everything should be 0.
6) Go to Setup tab on the top.
7) On the sub-tab click on MAC Address Clone.
8) Enable it if it’s not enabled and then click Clone Your PC’s MAC.
9) Now turn off the modem and then turn off the router and then shut down your computer.
10) Turn on the modem first and wait till the LED lights on the modem is not flashing and stable, then turn on your Linksys router and then wait till the LED lights are not flashing and stable, then turn on your computer.

These steps should help solve the problem, if not then I suggest you to go to their web site, Linksys.com, or call them at 1 (800) 546-5797.
