You would definitely be surprised, if you live in the west, to find out who is the world’s most famous person. And the most famous person in the world is a man, not a woman, and is he is not American. You may think what about Bill Gates? He’s not Bill Gates; even though he’s considered to be richest man in the world, he is not that popular; remember he’s not American. He is not even a Hollywood actor.

Shahrukh Khan

The world’s most famous man is none other than the one and only Shahrukh Khan. Surprised? No, you shouldn’t be. Shahrukh Khan’s movies are not only shown in India, he’s home country, but also in many parts of the world, especially in America. However, almost all of India along with Bangladesh and Pakistan and the rest of the South Asian countries know the name Shahrukh Khan. South Asians make up about 25% of the world’s population with an estimated number of 1.5 billion people who live there, and the majority of that 1.5 billion people know the who the famous Shahrukh Khan is. More people around the world know Shahrukh Khan than any other person.

Here in Atlanta there is a theater called Galaxy Theater near Jimmy Carter Blvd, which always shows 3-4 Indian movies. But that’s only in Atlanta, there are various places with theaters which hosts these movies, especially in London, New York, Chicago, New Jersey. And in these theaters the name Shahrukh Khan with his picture, resonates strongly.

When I used to work at Macy’s two years ago, I had a Tajikistani co-worker, named Nikki. And a picture of Shahrukh Khan showed up in a magazine or a paper and it appalled me when she recognized Shahrukh Khan’s picture. She told me when she used live in Tajikistan she used to watch a lot of Indian movies. Not only that, I read in the news that movies of Bollywood, India’s version of Hollywood, is desired more and more in the Middle-East, especially in Palestine. Satellite providers are increasing there outreach of Indian channels in the Middle-East every year and the name Shahrukh Khan is widely known.

So the world’s famous man is not an American, but an Indian, named Shahrukh Khan.
