Sunny, in one of his posts had mentioned that he is not keen on an Apple iPhone. Well I hold the opposite view. Why? The iPhone is a glimpse of things to come.
Companies like Nokia, Sony-Ericsson, Palm, Treo, Blackberry, Blackjack and Microsoft have been active in the Mobile Web for years now, but one of the main issues with Mobile Web has always been usability. Where the iPhone differs from its competitors is in its use of the browser for an amazing web experience.
If you walk into a mobile phone store today, you will suddenly find that more and more devices are offering advanced features like full email and broadband Internet access. There’s going to be a time, very soon, when more people are accessing the internet via their mobile devices rather than PCs. And this is going to happen soon. The handsets available these days are much easier to use and have more functionality than even a couple of years ago – and they will get even better in the very near future.
Mobile Web will undoubtedly be the Next Big Thing in technology. For example the Apple iPhone can completely change your online banking experience. With its desktop class Web browser built-in, you can securely access and display a banks online banking platform exactly as you would on your laptop or desktop computer. Just imagine accessing a banks online portal to view every page like you do on your desktop. This is just the beginning of the mobile web experience. In 10 years time there will be many services available via mobile devices; such as getting personalized shopping offers as you walk through your local mall, getting map directions while driving your car, or hooking up with your friends on a Friday night. Big Internet companies like Yahoo and Google will become key mobile portals, alongside the mobile operators.
Here is a screen shot of how an online banking transaction will look on an Apple iPhone.
From SMS Banking and WAP technology it will now be a full fledged online experience with your bank. I now get just SMS text messages mentioning my account balances and cheque debits with my bank which I find so useful. Just imagine me being able to do everything online on my hand held device. I would love it. Apple iPhone is a breakthrough mobile web device and is here to stay. Expect more such devices to hit the market.
