Well, if you are into video productions and music productions then Mac is perfect. Go to best buy, compusa, or a name brand electronic store and just explore a Macintosh. I'm still going to use Windows if I buy my Mac; I have been working with Windows for over 5 years and I'm not going to stop now.

I am considering getting the MacBook 13 inch 2 Core Duo. What do you think? I read the reviews and the performance is great except for a heating problem. My only worry is that Apple is going to stick it to me like with the Ipod. You buy one then they come out with a better one for the same price right after...

You should buy a MacBook. It's a good investment. As soon as I get my other payments squared away I'm going to buy an iMac for my video production.

Have you heard of the new linux distibution named Ubuntu?

I don't know how well it works for video edeting (I have a feeling Mac is better) but it will certainly provide an alternative to Microsoft and best of all IT'S FREE

Yeah I've heard of Ubuntu but I don't know much about it. I use Son Vegas to edit my videos. You are feeling right, Macintosh is better and Apple's computer sales are rising exponentialy. Hopefully, I'll own one soon.

I switched in January 2005 with PowerBook G4 17" and I am planning to buy MacBook Pro soon. I'll never come back to Windows, never. I was long time Windows user, from version 1.0 and now I am free of viruses, trojans, worms, spywares, adwares, etc. I don't have any anti virus application and firewall is off. I finally use computer for some creative and productive.

Well I plan to use Windows with my Mac because lot of the software I have are only for Windows. With Mac OS there is a limitation with the number of software you can use.

I agree. My Intel Centrino laptop (Dell 700m) is getting progressively slower and I keep this sucker as a barebones system. I have 1.2gb of ram yet it gets bogged down. My next computer will be a Mac thanks to Boot Camp!

A few questions/statements:

1. "As always there is a downside to this. If you want to run Windows, you need to purchase a copy of Windows XP SE 2 or better. "

Not true. I am running Windows 2000 Pro SP4 under Parallels under Mac OS 10.4.8 on an iMac (24-inch, 2.16GHz). Works very well. Applications run faster on it than on my Athlon 1.8GHz whitebox.
You do need to have at least 2GB of memory to run Parallels with reasonable performance.
You can find legitimate copies of Win2K at used computer stores for very little money.

2. "I am considering getting the MacBook 13 inch 2 Core Duo. What do you think? I read the reviews and the performance is great except for a heating problem."

I own a new MacBook (Core 2 Duo). Heat is not a problem. I run Hardware Monitor and the temps are well within an acceptable range. MacWorld had a recent article that said the new Core 2 Duo laptops run 10 degrees F cooler. My experience bears that out.

3. "Well I plan to use Windows with my Mac because lot of the software I have are only for Windows. With Mac OS there is a limitation with the number of software you can use."

True. But, you can say that about any operating system. Surf to Version Tracker and look for software under Mac OS X. Lots.
Yes, there are apps that only run under Windows and they don't have a Mac equivalent. I have two. WebTrends for analyzing webserver log data and producing great looking reports. That is why I use Parallels. Also SwishMax for creating Flash movies. Yes, Flash (from Adobe) runs on a Mac, but SwishMax is so much easier to use.

I see three (3) reasons not to buy a Mac:

1. You want to build your own machine. I have done it. It was fun the first few times. Don't want to do it again. But, if you feel you must build your own, then Windows or Linux it is.

2. Price is everything. Features don't count. Only price. You can't get a new mac for $399 and you can get an eMachines box for that.

3. You have one or more applications that will not run under Mac OS X AND you use these applications every day for many hours per day. An example would be an accountant or bookkeeper who uses one of the specialized versions of QuickBooks.

Wow, that's handful. Dave there is one thing that you mentioned that I strongly agree with, you get what you paid for. Most people don't understand that, that's why Mac is expensive because it's a high grade quality machine. Thanks for your response.
