We’ve seen the media saying bad stuff about Iran’s treatment of outsiders, but to my surprise the people I never expected, the Jews of Iran, says something else. Iranian Jews are considered to be the Invisible Iranians protected by the Iranian government.

“Father of Iran’s revolution, Imam Khomeini, recognized Jews as a religious minority that should be protected” says Jewish community leader Unees Hammami.

“Imam Khomeini made a distinction between Jews and Zionists and he supported us,” says Mr. Hammami.

To my surprise it shows that Iranian Jews support the fact that the Iranian government is anti-Zionist but not anti-Jewish, regardless of President Ahmedinejad’s anti-Israeli rhetorics.

Mr. Hammami also says that Jews of Iran can easily go to Tel Aviv, Israel to visit relatives and back without trouble.

Another thing that surprises me is the prominent Jewish hospital that’s established in Tehran, Iran. The Jews of Iran made it confirm that Iran is there home, it was always their home and it will stay as their home regardless of the situation there.

“We are Iranian and we have been living in Iran for more than 3,000 years,” says the Jewish hospital director Ciamak Morsathegh.

We learn something new everyday, even things that shock us. I guess my image of the Iranian government was brough upon by the American war-hawk media.
