Don’t worry about looks; blog readers come to your site to read your content, not look at your pictures. Well, I can’t say that for all readers but let’s just say the majority of your readers come to read your content.
Get a good picture. You don’t have to be as hot as Jane May or cute like Kumiko or “a damn fine person” like John Chow, but a decent picture of you is good enough to put life to your blog. Don’t worry about how you look like, just get a good picture of yourself and it’ll be enough to attract loyal readers to your content.
Bring life to your site. A blog that doesn’t have a picture of the author is not quite lively as with a blog that does have the author’s picture. If you author a blog, a picture of you can take you a long way toward creating strong ties with your readers.
Help make strong relationships with readers. A picture of you can help define who you are to your readers. As mentioned above, a picture of you helps define the personality of your blog towards your readers, based on their perception.

The picture on the left is a picture of me taken when I got bored while studying at 4 AM in the morning. I’m not saying you should place a Hollywood star-wannabe style picture like I did on my about page. I only did it because I like that picture, but on the right side of this blog you can see that I placed a natural looking picture of myself with no shades or high-end clothes or high-end lighting. I’m sure by looking at the picture you can come up with a good enough info about my personality. If I was a regular reader and I came across this picture I would say the guy has brown hair, wears shades, and likes black. Ok, enough with the common sense stuff, but I would say he likes to pose in his pics, he wears dark colors, and he worries about his looks. You may have a different perception but that’s just what I would think if I was someone else.
A good example would be Jeremy Schoemaker, otherwise known as ShoeMoney. He has pictures of himself and picture of the events he went to all over his site. He has a good established site, but his site is made very lively not only by his podcasts but also due to his pictures.
Anyways, try adding a picture of yourself to your blog and tell me how it goes.

I agree Sunny - A blog without a picture of the author/owner is not a blog. I frequently come across excellent blogs that do not have even the author’s name; forget the picture. A blog lacks personality without the bloggers picture. When I visit a new blog I first want to know the name of the blogger, the nationality and the country he/she resides in. When this is missing I lower the credibility of the blog. I also don’t like MyBlogLog readers who do not use pics.

@Personal Finance Blog: I suggest you don’t put a picture of anyone else’s pic other than yourself. And you do know she does only paid reviews, right?
@Amit: I don’t think my pics has anything to do with my subscribers lolz, but yeah, Kumiko’s review helped my site alot.
@Vinay: I agree, a blog without much info about its author deviates visitors away.

Did anyone notice a database failure on this site? If you did then I apologize, I accidentally modified the access code. If you didn’t experience any problems then just ignore this.
